My professional career goals for the next five years are helping students and watching them do better in school and in their social interactions. I want to assist learners as they learn to cope with academic and social challenges, including learning and emotional disabilities, interpersonal conflicts, and crises. I connect students with outside services, support, and learning opportunities. I also want to help students plan for the future and set academic, personal, and career goals. Also, I want to get to help students apply to the colleges of their dreams or land their dream jobs. Watching students succeed makes a highly rewarding career for me. 2. Describe the variety of experiences that helped you determine these goals. – As I grew up, I knew in my heart that I wanted to work with people that needed help. After getting my bachelors degree in psychology, I knew I had to continue on into graduate school to get a professional job that I desire. While trying to figure out which graduate degree would be worth the effort and best suit me. Based on the experiences I had, I came up to the conclusion that school counseling is the best fit for me. Helping people has always been my top priority in seeking any job in the future. My family and I immigrated to the United States when I was at age 12. By coming to a new country, without knowing a single thing, we struggled in many areas, we were able to build our new lives only by the help of people around us. From those difficult times, I decided that I have to pursue a job that contains helping people. In Grossmont Community College, I worked at Transfer Center and Accessibility Resource Center for two years. The Transfer Center is an office where the counselors help the students to transfer to a University, and the Accessibility Resource Center is an office where counselors help the disabile students. I loved how these counselors had the power to significantly help students improve their lives. While in those moments, my career goal was to be a pharmacist and all my classes were around that subject. I obtained my pharmacy technician licenses and worked in pharmacy, for about three years now. I compared my both experiences and looked into where I would put the most positive outcomes. 3. What motivates you to work in California’s diverse schools? The motivation that I have to work in California’s diverse schools is to make a difference. Being a counselor has meant significantly helping people improve their lives. Personally, I can’t think of a better way to have lived mine. Becoming a school counselor is an opportunity to make a tremendous positive impact on the lives of individual students and the surrounding school community. Counselors advise and provide support to students at critical times in their lives, including times of transition and crisis. They help students overcome challenges, set goals, and access the resources they need to thrive in school and after graduation. School counselors also help parents, teachers, and other school staff understand and meet the unique needs of their student clients.
