Writing is not my passion. Writing is hard and I honestly stuck on my paper. Every time I write, I have to stare to my paper with my pen and paper. Sometimes, I wish that I could be a walking dictionary or a computer program, so I can get the answers that I need right away. I do not have a problem when it comes to spelling. When I write I need to look up the definitions, proper words, revise my work, and many more. Sometimes I think that it is impossible for me to have a clean, and a nice descriptive essay. I can always write anything but I can’t make it perfect. I guess practice makes perfect. However, how could I make it perfect if neither I don’t like to read nor write? When I don’t like my writing, I have to get another sheet of paper to rewrite it. There are times that I have togo to the store and buy a fancy paper and pen to motivate to write, but that did not work either.
My passion is cooking better than writing. I cook for myself and for my family, friends, and relatives. I prefer not to make my life complicated. If I do not like to do things that will make me stress, I tried not to do it. I always find things that would make sense to me. Nevertheless, writing does notmy interest at all. Nonetheless, to be a good writer, one should be a good reader. However, to motivate a person to read, one should get a book that would interest him/her. A book that will help to gain the knowledge. That’s how I started to read and write an essaywhen I took English last spring. It wasn’t easy, but there’s nothing wrong if one will try to write. Good writing takes a lot of time and effort. However, writing is a long process that one should know better writing skills.
In the essay, “Simplicity” William Zinsserswrites “Clutter is the disease of American writing. We are a society strangling in unnecessary words, circular constructions, pompous frills and meaningless jargon,” (30). One must have clear thinking to have clear writing that one cannot exist without the other. He also writes, “But the secret of good writing is to strip every sentence to its cleanest components. Every word that serves no function, every long word that could be a short word, every adverb that carries the same meaning that’s already in the verb, every passive construction that leaves the reader unsure of who is doing what—these are the thousand and one adulterants that weaken the strength of a sentence,” (30).Common mistakes of some writers are using redundancies in English writing such as due to the fact – because, at this point in time – now, and repeat – again.
