For this week’s discussion, I chose Ernst & Young (EY) LLP. Knowing nothing about EY, I chose it simply for its slogan which is “Building a better working world.†The Working Mother Research Institute (TWMRI) wanted to celebrate the organizations that help men be the best Dad’s they can, which also benefits moms at work and at home (Working Mother, 2019). EY is an advisory company that specializes in many areas to include Cyber Security for companies, their portfolio consist of more than 200,000 companies in over 150 countries (ey.com).
EY employees in the U.S. have access to their Career and Family Transitions Coaching Program, providing an internal coach to help employees before, during, and after the birth or adoption of a child. Since its inception, nearly 1,500 EY parents have participated (Working Mother, 2019). EY also provides extra maternity leave for birth mothers in addition to gender-neutral leave and embraces cultural diversity. I believe both of these areas are extremely important and a new parent and child need time to bond and many women are capable of holding high positions in a company without being penalized for taking time off. Did I mention that the time off is paid? This makes employees grateful and more loyal to the mission of the company. It is the old saying “You take care of me, and I will take care of you.â€
From a Christian perspective, I see this as family friendly; EY values their employees and wants to be there for them when they need the company to help them the most. Luke 6:31 (ESV) reminds us “And as you wish that others would do to you do so to them.†I see EY and their employees living this principle and honoring each other.
