Go see the film Harriet in a theatre near you about this amazing woman.
Then read the excerpt, found in this module, from the “Introduction†of the book, Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman: Portrait of an American Hero. By Kate Clifford Larson. One World Publisher, 2004.
Once you have seen the film and do this fascinating brief reading to know fact –vs- fiction in the movie, you can answer the following questions in 2 pages, double spaced:
1. Describe as many of the true details from the film as you can about Harriet Tubman’s life and accomplishments
2. Describe at least 2 or more ways in which the film took liberties to make up details or fictionalize parts of Harriet’s story. Why do you think the filmmakers chose to imagine scenes and add them to the movie? (hint: Kate Larson talks about the problem with sources about Harriet, and that helps you to answer this!)
