Discuss the similarities and differences between travel today and travel during Roman times.

Travel today has many similarities and differences with the travel during the Roman times. Starting with the similarities, Romans tourists visit famous temples, the Egypt monuments, game activities, and coast baths. Today tourism composes of similar activities only that the modern settings have made communication and travelling more superior with the availability of guidebooks, efficient transport, and technology. In addition, the ancient Roman had tour planners and travel guides the same way today tourists have. Secondly, during the Roman times people travelled for leisure in addition to looking for more innovations in the world. Today, most people also travel with an aim of discovering something new in order to become famous (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 20-33).

Travelling today and during the Roman times has differences also. During the Roman times, the ancient Roman holiday lasted for two years where they travelled with a purpose of seeing where traditional Socrates lived. In addition, the Romans only toured specific places where Muslim religion dominated. Today’s travel lasts for not more than six months and tourists have the freedom of travelling to any destination of their choice. Moreover, travelling today is more secure because the current technology makes travelers aware of dangers associated with weather and insecurities while during the Roman times people had no prior information of the places they wanted to tour (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 36-40).

Read Chapter 2. Specifically, select a job in the industry that would appeal to you and discuss its merits and challenges (business management).

Tourism today forms the world’s largest industry offering over million jobs every year. The most appealing job in the tourism industry is Tourism Technology job. Information technology is an important factor in the tourism industry today therefore; the industry requires more experts in the technology field. The provision of advanced tourist information through navigation systems and mobile phones is growing requiring more technical manpower in order for the managers to achieve their goals. Tourism technology job has both merits and demerits. To start with, this is one of the highly paying jobs in the industry due to little number of technological experts. In addition, the job is not very competitive in the job market as most people prefer being tourist guides and drivers in order to travel many places. Moreover, the Tourism Technology job enables a person gain more knowledge in the virtual world of technology by understanding various navigation systems, landmarks, and be able to communicate with prominent people from all across the world (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 53-54).

On the other hand, Tourism Technology job has challenges as discussed below. Firstly, the experts are faced with hard tasks of getting navigations to various destinations especially during harsh weather conditions. In addition, technologists are responsible for the safety of tourists and are questionable in case the navigation systems fail while people are in the field. Moreover, tourism today involves online booking and technologists must ensure such services are available all the time to avoid inconveniencing travelers (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 56-57).

Conduct a research for entry level management travel and tourism jobs and discuss your opinions of the positive and negative aspects of the job you find in the appropriate discussion board for assignment #3. Each person must post one job.

Management travel and tourism job requires an individual with a bachelor’s degree and at least three years experience in the tourism industry. In addition, the individual should have personal characters such as quality, commitment, work ethics, and flexible. The following position impacts an individual positively because it does not require a lot of mind work and a person can operate at any environment. On the other hand, this job requires only graduates and people with experience. This means fresh graduates must undergo internship for 3 years before being absorbed to the system (Goeldner and Ritchie, 2012; 63-67).
