This paper purposes to compare the states of Nevada, Illinois, Texas and Nebraska, in regard to laws of gay marriages, corporal punishment in schools, and capital punishment. The paper will be looking at whether allow civil unions, and the amendments to the constitution in regard to the same.

Gay marriage is illegal in the State of Nevada. The state did a constitutional amendment in the year 2002 to illegalize gay marriages (Chereb, 2014). However, the governor assisted by the attorney general has vowed not to support the ban in the Supreme Court. Nevada State does not allow corporal punishment. The state allows death penalty.

The state of Illinois does not allow death penalty. It does not allow corporal punishment. Gay marriage is legal in Illinois through a constitutional amendment that becomes effective in June 1, 2014. Texas has a death penalty (DPIC, 2014). It allows corporal punishment. It banned gay marriage through legislation. Nebraska does not allow gay marriage. It also does not allow corporal punishment in schools (Find Law, 2014). It allows death penalty (DPIC, 2014).

These results in these four states are very interesting. All the same, I was not surprised by the results. From the news circulated everyday about the beliefs of people in a particular state, I had a glimpse of an expectation that identifies with these findings. There are some interesting patterns in regard to these laws. For example, the state of Nebraska does not allow gay marriage, and at the same time does not allow corporal punishment in school. Another pattern is seen in Illinois. The state laws do not allow death penalty, and also do not allow corporal punishment. These findings reflect the beliefs of people in the different states.
