Abstract

This paper is going to address the issue of the security professionals who have been on their job for quite some time, and hence they have acquired the relevant experience. It analysis the challenge that security personnel may encounter versus the preparations that they should make to tackle the possible challenges that may come their way in the course of executing their duties. The paper will tackle the internal and external aspects of security in organizations. The basic idea of who is in charge of the various dockets of security will not be covered in depth. Challenge in security and the opportunities can not be explained without mentioning the relevance of the information technology in that field. Technology has boosted information technology which is a very vital element for security professionals.

Introduction

Security is a major element in today’s world and a vital component in most organizations. Many credible institutions have strong and reliable security systems. In most cases the security departments are headed by security professionals who are highly qualified in what they do. It should be understood that for one to a professional in security matters he must have been subjected to thorough training. There are numerous challenges that the security personnel are subjected to in the course of executing their duties. The increasing instances of threats in today’s world has been one of the challenges that the security professional have to deal with, this has lead to the protection of information to be a complex challenge for the security professionals. It is therefore very important for the security personnel to have the necessary knowledge on the issues affecting the information security.

There are various ways that security personnel can prepare for new challenges and opportunities that they may encounter as they execute their duties. The preparation that the security professionals require will vary depending on the challenge or the opportunity that they might be anticipating. One main challenge that is rampant and affecting the security industry is the safeguarding of the information security. Most security lapses happen because of a leakage in information security. With the rise of such activities as terrorists attacks and hacking of computer systems it is vital for security professionals to prepare themselves adequately on how do deal with the menace of information security. In the computing world, security is going to be a bigger pain than a smaller one especially to the security professionals (Moyle, oxford- based database security officer). One way to tackle this problem is for the security professionals to search for the provision of security technologies in advance.(Newman,2005)

An advanced database security product should be developed to cater for any eventuality that the security personnel might encounter. Since information technology changes constantly, it will be important for the professionals to keep on updating their security data base system more constantly. An advanced security data base is used to monitor all the data base requests in a learning mode .in case of a security lapse the security professionals will have noticed well before the situation deteriorates. As business grows, so does the technology and therefore a possibility of a security lapse void coming up. Therefore constant evaluation and training in IT for the security professionals is vital in the developing world.

Another challenge that is facing the security professionals is the emergence of cyber security threats. According to the cyber security experts the criminals who engage in this activity infect soft wares with bugs and viruses and this might even collapse computer systems in big companies leading to massive losses. For the IT security professionals to handle this problem, they face a major challenge of convincing their IT staff to let other staff understand the risk environment. The security professionals need to understand the business environment in order to carry out an effective risk assessment.

Another way that security professionals can prepare for challenges and opportunities is by engaging in constant value adding trainings that are not just restrained to their areas of specialization. They should train in all aspects of securities details that cut across all aspects of operations. It is also important for the security professionals to work closes with all the other professionals in order to understand the business environment that they operate in.

For the security professionals to prepare for emerging opportunities, which they have never encountered before, it will be paramount for them to understand the possible opportunities. It should be understood that in the current world almost all organization require security professionals. It therefore implies that the security professionals might go to other organizations or can be poached. Promotions can also be treated as opportunities for getting more responsibilities and possibly more remuneration. It is therefore important for the security professionals to enroll for advanced courses that might add on their qualifications. The need for training may vary from various policies that organizations use. Some organizations have structures for refresher and career advancement programs for their employees. But when it comes to opportunities the security professionals should put in their individual efforts because they are bound to benefit directly in case of a career development. Trainings can either be academic or through seminars and workshops. It might also entail studying security systems that are more advanced.

The security professionals need to understand the environment that they might be assigned. The main reason for this is because security entails gathering of all the data in the new environment so that to be able to come up with the risk assessment. Every new environment poses a different security threat and the security details may differ from one environment to another, take for instance the security in the banking sector and that of a social place. A new environment may call for new security policies, threats and uncertainties in execution plan.

Knowledge of a security professional in a certain environment can be a drawback in a different environment. This is because different organizations rely on set principles and methods to perform their work. Researches have also shown that both personal and organizational factors contribute to individual performance (Mann, 2008).this explains the fact that a security professional can be exemplary one environment because of the combined factors of the said environment and his individual efforts. If taken to a different environment one factor of a reliable atmosphere is withdrawn. It therefore follows that similar security measures may not be applied in a different environment especially when it is the first time when the professional l is not used

Conclusion

Security professionals should be prepared to work in any environment that they might be posted. There is a general feeling that if one works in one organization for long, the productivity might be compromised. To be ready to tackle any security scare that might arise organizations should invest highly in security development. Preparation is vital in enhancing readiness for the professionals to deal with the emerging challenges in their organizations. The need for a continuous training for the professionals should be a major priority for the management
