Precisely, a new leadership group that would guide in the decarbonization process was formed during the conference. Also, the summit led to the development of significant decisions that would guide the industries to ensure a drastic reduction in carbon emission. As one of the heavy greenhouse gas emitting industries, the international shipping industry would lead in the development of a roadmap for eradicating such dangerous gasses. Since the shipping industry transports approximately 90 percent of the world trade volume and generates about 2-3 percent of the world’s emissions, it is vital to adjust its operations and processes to minimize the harmful gases. Luckily, a coalition of stakeholders from the concerned industries exhibited their commitment to such great developments by promising to use suitable vessels that do not emit greenhouse gases (The UN Climate Action Summit, 2019). Thus, it would be important for interested parties to determine appropriate leadership to drive the transition project.

Besides, the shipping industry would work with related industries under a partnership called the Getting to Zero Coalition, which comprises varied organizations including the World Economic Forum, the Friends of the Ocean Action, and the Global Maritime Forum to gear the decarbonization project. Moreover, the shipping industry would embrace the use of profitable zero-emission vessel (ZEVs) from the years 2030s and 2040s by adopting an appropriate roadmap that offers well-developed procedures. Still, the Poseidon Principles that were launched in June 2019 would guide the union while building the projected roadmap. Similarly, the involved parties promised to stick to policies found in the “Business Ambition for 1.5 °C – Our Only Future” to ensure that they adopt predetermined procedures (The UN Climate Action Summit, 2019).

As a global issue, the need to drastically reduce carbon emission would rely on support from varied entities from different parts of the world. For instance, the European Climate Foundation, Stockholm Environment Institute, as well as diversified countries have shown their commitment and support for the program. Consequently, virtually every country, industries and other entities from all over the world would support the transition project because many entities participate in its (the project) development.
