This Case Assignment requires that you present your position on future issues and trends in food protection that you believe need the attention of the state legislative in order to initiate a change in the food protection regulations governing retail food protection and safety in the state of Florida.
Situation: There have been a series of well documented news articles over the last six months that the threat of an outbreak of a major foodborne illness is very likely due to lack of enforcement of food protection laws. Several public interest groups have published widely circulated opinions that recent changes in the food service industry and the effects of globalization have rendered the current system of food protection meaningless and ineffective. They attacked the food protection infrastructure, adequacy of food protection regulations, a lack of coordination in the investigation of foodborne illnesses (FBI). The result of widely circulated opinions concerning the status of the adequacy of food protection within the state is that the average consumer has lost confidence in the safety of the food supply. As a respected leader in food protection in Florida, the political leadership would like to hear your non-partisan opinion.
Case Assignment Tasks
You are to research and prepare a presentation to the legislative committee which responds to concerns of the State of Florida. Specifically, you are to discuss the following:
? Has there been a change in foodborne illnesses in Florida by type and causative agent?
? Do the current trends in the foodservice industry present a potential challenge to the current food protection regulatory scheme? Will there eventually be a need to significantly change food protection regulations?
? Is the food protection infrastructure currently adequate and has it been strengthened since 9-11? Is there adequate coordination in the State of Florida between various State and local agencies and the federal government?
? Discuss any other issue(s) that you believe will strengthen your position.
Be sure to adequately justify your position taken on any issue.
This Case Assignment should be at least 700-1200 words not counting the title page and references. LENGTH: 3 pages typed and double-spaced, in addition to a cover page.

Precision: Each of the questions of the assignment is specifically addressed in the paper. The paper analyzes the role that population growth has on human health, in general. The paper explains how human activity has lead to global warming. The paper explains what the potential impacts of global warming are, and why these impacts may be greater in developing countries.
Clarity: The paper reads clearly. It is well structured and grammatically correct.
Breadth: The paper presents appropriate breadth covering the questions of the assignment.
Depth: The paper describes well the concepts presented and the concepts are well supported by the literature and/or illustrated with examples taken from the literature. The paper presents points that lead to deeper matters and issues.
Critical Thinking: The paper integrates your understanding of the impact of population growth on the environment and your understanding of global warming to explaining how human activity has lead to global warming, what the potential impacts of global warming are, and why these impacts may be greater in developing countries.
References: A reference list is provided at the end of your paper. Following APA guidelines for citation of references is encouraged and recommended, but not required. At least 5 scholarly references are required. Scholarly references refer to peer reviewed journal articles, credible websites (such as government websites), published book materials and other peer-reviewed resources.
