tHE ASSIGNMENT:

The Defendant, T.W.Z., has filed a Motion to Suppress certain evidence gathered during his

arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1, namely Methamphetamine.

You will be assigned the role of either Attorney for the Defense or Attorney for the State. In

your role, you will be writing either a Brief in Support of the Motion, if you are a defense

attorney, or a Brief in Opposition to the Motion, if you are a State’s attorney.

You are asked to analyze claims by the Defendant that his rights have been violated under the

Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Defendant

s claims will be outlined in

class-room lecture. Your analysis of these claims will rely on your research of and

understanding of the current state of Fourth Amendment jurisprudence in the United States.

You will be expected to cite not less than one Supreme Court case for each of the Defendant

s

claims that you believe support your analysis. Instruction on proper citation methodology will
