1.LIST and DEFINE the challenges posed by the police by our nation’s shifting demographics, flailing economy, immigration patterns, and the use of technology and EXPLAIN some of the strategies being employed to deal with the challenges you have identified.Shifting demographics and change in the immigration patterns has led to increase in population. The increase in population has posed a great challenge to the police. This is because it has greatly decreased ratio of police to the public. Decrease in this ratio means that the police can only respond to a specific number of people (Ross, 2011). In order to curb this there is an increase in the number of police being recruited in the force. The community is also urged to assist the police through community policing.

Failing economy has led to decrease in the police budget. This has led to decrease in the resources that are available to the police and can easily put them at risk. The police force itself is trying to solve the issue by ensuring that the money allocated to them is sent on the necessities of the departments.

Increase in the use of technology has led to increase in crime for instance cyber crimes. This has led to increase in the number of crimes the police have to deal with. The positive aspect is that there was launched a cyber crime unit that specifically deals with use of technology and is always working to ensure that the criminals on the internet do not get away (Das, 2012).

Governance has also posed as a challenge. This is because change in governance leads to change in administration in the departments which has an effect on the performance of the police. This is because change in leadership does not always mean change in loyalty (Ross, 2011). This brings disagreements at the police departments. The best strategy to solve this is to ensure that politics has no influence on the police force and vice versa. The work of the police is to protect the people and they should not be dragged into politics.

Inefficiencies within the police force is also another challenge that is faced by the police departments. This is because increase in the crimes renders some police men capable of stitching and cuffing of crimes (Das, 2012). This is police slang for hiding evidence and covering crimes respectively. This is being addressed by a separate investigation body that investigates the code and conduct of the police.
