Once your topic is identified and approved you will move on to the research, analysis and action portion of the assignment. Part II is divided into three separate sections.
1.Research – Provide a summary of your sources in an Annotated Analytical Bibliography. An annotated bibliography is a list of sources with information that describes and makes a value statement about each source. It is a research tool to assist you in synthesizing and reviewing your sources.(umuc.edu) This will involve four separate 100 to 150, word summaries with analytical evaluations of each source. In addition to the proper citation format, the above links provides important information regarding your evaluation, which includes not only its value to you, but, an assessment of the point of view of your research source. Bias, for the purposes of this assignment, is about understanding the perspective of your source. Almost all articles about political issues have some bias. This does not mean the source is not valuable but it does require your recognition of that bias for a clear evaluation. For example, if I want to research the Bureau of Land Managements policy on wild horses, the perspective of an animal rights organization will differ from the perspective of a ranching association – both perspectives may be biased but may still be valuable.
1.Analysis – Summarize your research and explain the factors that make this a matter for federal action. Include in your discussion the opposing arguments and the solutions to this concern. (Approximately 250 words)
2.Letter to Congress Write a letter to your Representative or Senator explaining your concern and specifically identifying what you would like to see them do regarding this matter. (Approximately 200 words)
