Origin of the Universe

Viking mythology suggests that when an eclipse occurs it is as a result of two wolves, Hati and Skoll, catching the moon or the sun. Once the eclipse started people made noise in a bid to scare the wolves away. With time people noticed that eclipses ended heedlessly of their efforts to make noise. During this era, people postulated many myths in attempts to make sense of their world. In the long run people embraced philosophy, the application of reason with instinct, to decipher the mysteries of the world. Presently, people use reason and modern science to make sense of the world. According to Albert Einstein, the utmost perplexing thing about the world is that it is coherent. This simply means that every single thing in the world adheres to laws without exclusion.

Stephen Hawking, through his book The Grand Design, asserts that God is redundant in the clarification of the beginning of the world. According to Hawking the factors that render God redundant are physical laws, for example the law of gravity. The renowned British theoretical physicist claims that the world is a result of the ‘Big Bang’. In his book he states that the ‘Big Bang’ acted as an inescapable magnitude of the physical laws thus God had nothing to do with the creation of the universe. Hawking questions the presence of God in forming the ‘Big Bang’. He opines that peoples’ daily experiences influence their perception on the things that happen as a result of a prior action. According to him it appears to be normal for one to have the perception that something, or conceivably God, acted as the foundation of the world’s existence. The aforementioned statement takes a drastic shift when one talks about the universe as a whole entity. Under the above circumstance, God is not necessary.

In Hawking’s opinion this signified that there is no prospect of there being a creator since there is no time to support his existence. Since time commenced once the big bang occurred; the event could not be attributed as the creation of anything or anyone. Prior to the big bang time did not exist, thus there was no time for God to create the universe. The globe does not have an edge thus searching for it proves to be vain.

Another angle adopted by theorists in explaining the origin of the earth is God’s involvement as the Grand Creator. The aforementioned statement infers that patterns that the universe adopts are attributed to a superior divine being that is above the patterns. The aforementioned approach manifests itself in various forms. The leading form is acknowledging and giving credit to God for permitting the existence of the universe. According to Judeo-Christianity, God is the state of prospect of any entity whatsoever as well as humans. God acts the ultimate reminder that there is something rather than emptiness. Another form is the sustainer of the universe. John Polkinghorne responds to Hawkin’s query on the position of God as the creator by stating God’s position is in every and all places. Comparatively, God is at times recognized for sustaining the symmetries witnessed in nature that would otherwise appear to be a mere concurrence.

It is the similar laws of nature overriding most distant galaxies that are apparently operative on planet earth. Additionally, the same laws managed the original proceedings which people refer to as operate in the current settings. Whether this is not considered as a cause of the universe is entirely surrendered to individuals. Nevertheless, such an occurrence is too bizarre for the logical reasoning of an individual. The question is why other people need a meta-explanatory account, while others are content without one. Conclusively, there is enough reason to conclude that Hawking’s ‘Big Bang’ theory is to some extent incorrect. Thus, if there is good reason to believe that there exists other forms of time then it is possible for God top exist prior to the creation of the universe. Due to the aforementioned statement, God could have applied causal influence to creation of the universe. It would prove to be unreasonable for an individual to adopt Hawking’s theory that the universe does not have an origin. Arguments such as the ‘kalam’ formation reveal that the world does not have an origin but rather its sole cause is God.
