The text that you will be analyzing is a song of your own choosing. You will analyze this song (music, words, style, and voice) as it relates to a specific time in your life. Please include a copy of the song lyrics with your paper (these do not count towards your word count).
The first step in writing this essay is to pick a song. Make sure that you choose one that attempts to influence the audience (you) in significant ways (whether by appealing to logic, emotions/values and/or credibility).
Format: 1000 words minimum, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, typed and double-spaced with 1” margins. Please place under your name the actual word count of your document. Please provide a youtube.com link of your song
Once you have selected a song to focus on for your analysis essay, consider the following general questions as you begin the process of analyzing it:
- What is your general impression of the design and presentation of the song (including any musical components and/or lyrics of the song)?
- What are the important musical elements?
- What is the relationship between music and lryrics?
- In what ways does the design appeal to your logic/reason/emotion?
- Does the credibility of a company or an individual play a role in this song?
- Do any associated images assume people have prior knowledge about what they represents?
- How would you describe the message/impact of the song?
- Do you feel like the song achieves its intended impact?
As you begin writing the first draft of your visual analysis, please use the following outline to help you get started:
- Briefly describe the song you are analyzing
- Describe the medium & genre
- Who produced it? When/where did it first appear?
- Make a claim about the song
- Analyze the song’s context(the bigger picture/history/events surrounding it)
- Analyze the lyricsof the song Build a strong conclusion
