Comprehensive Evaluation of a person outside family aged more than 70

Introduction

As a matter of fact, there is no as such accepted definition of old age but most of the developed countries have recognized the age of 65 years as a definition of older person. In many instances, the age of 60 years along with 65 years have been used as at these ages a person is supposed to retire even though there have been many debates on it since mid 1900s (Thane, 1978 & 1989; Roebuck 1979). The ageing is a biological process and it is an uncontrollable factor pertaining to human beings. There exists a marked contrast between the developed and the developing countries when it comes to defining old age as unlike in the developed world where chronological milestones mark the life stages; in the developed countries end of active contribution is considered to be oldness (Gorman, 2000).

Old age is associated with many problems comprising physical, psychological, economical, and social. As the body moves towards disorderliness, the body gets inflicted with several physical ailments; because of physical problems the normal productivity gets hampered resulting in an inability to do any activities even of their own. This coupled with the lack of time and willingness of their children’s to look after their parents forced them to old age home, and if not, then they are very ill treated.
