Science, behavior, and mental processes are all important to the definition of psychology due to important role each plays such as science serving its purpose of making hypothesis by observing human behavior and then drawing the conclusions to help other people. Behavior wise would be everything we do and what the purpose of it is and how it influences the society around us. Lastly, the mental processes are important because with all of the critical thinking it involves predicting the way people act or why they behave the way they do. All of these factor create a door way towards developing milestones and to understand the human evolution better.
The cognitive approach is an interesting approach because it focuses on theway we think, feel, and act. We use all of these senses every day which ends up determining the day we decide to have. If we’re happy, we have a successful and empowering day, whereas having any negative thoughts lead us into a dark place and feel no motivation to have a good day. This approach also help us portray our memories and expand our problem-solving techniques whether it is at home, school, or any kind of situation. For example, Dr.John Cline had made a study about insomnia and how it treats many medical problems including depression, anxiety, and chronicpain (Cline). He also mentioned that the first step in using these techniques to treat insomnia is to understand the power of cognitive processes in our emotional states and general healthand also that a placebo is a pharmacologically inert chemical that has a positive health effect because of the belief of the person taking it. (Cline). This shows how powerful the cognitive approach is and how useful it is to make groundbreaking discoveries. Another intriguing approach would have to be the sociocultural because we start to look around who we choose to be our friends and that influences who we later become in life. Our primary groups also have a huge impact because they are the people we decide to look up to and ask for advice when we need it and it is important to make sure the environment around us is beneficial. According to the American Psychology Association, a performance indicator influences the way we analyze the effectsof groupthink using contemporary and historic events(Fenton). The media for example is a huge part of the society today and our decisions tend to shift when we see or hear something that may or may not be true so we must be careful of our surroundings and only listen to facts and not be influenced by other people that may be lying.
