Should regulations regarding the use of cell phones while driving be standardized?

This law should be standardized to save lives and reduce injuries in a state. The safe driving Act directs the transportation secretary to create rules that ban use of handheld phone device on a public road while in use and moving accept for emergency only. Distracted driving is prohibited and it should come with penalties that should comply with. Nobody should lose his life for a simple avoidable reason that can be prevented with following rules. The state should raise awareness about distracted driving and stop more tragedies from occurring. Driving while texting, making phone calls or using apps is very dangerous the same as driving while drunk. Standardizing cell phone regulations reduce driver distraction thus preventing fatalities, injuries and deaths (Funk, 2004).

Safe Driving and Standardization of Cell Phone Regulations should be made compulsory for every driver whether for public or private vehicles. Safety and health laws apply to road work activities and the risk is handled effectively. Driving using both hands free or hands held mobile phones is a distraction and substantially adds the risk of a driver crashing. A research done by the transport department shows that use of mobile device while driving caused distraction.

Drivers who use phone while driving; are not aware of the things happening on the road; they don’t see road signs; they do not sustain correct lane position and stable speed; are likely to ‘tailgate’ any vehicle in front of them; respond slowly and take long time to brake; are more likely to enter unsafe gaps in traffic; they tend to feel frustrated and stressed; these problems are brought about by the mental distraction and division of attention of taking part in a phone dialogue at the same time as driving. Most people consider that if this bill is enacted, it would limit their freedom and it is infringement of their rights to speech. People should stop being pessimistic and look at the effects of standardizing cell phones while driving (Funk, 2004).
