Roman and Greek Stylistic and Cultural Significance
For this portion of the exam, you will write two essays, worth 20 points each, in which you explain the stylistic and cultural significance for two different pieces of art. There are 40 points possible for this section of the exam. When writing essays about the significance of each piece, you should address the following points:
STYLISTIC SIGNIFICANCE ESSAYS
- Stylistic characteristics
- Stylistic influences
- Stylistic innovations
- Artistic canons
CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE ESSAYS
- Key figures associated with the piece
- Cultural values, ideas or traditions that are represented through the piece
- Historical events that are associated with the piece
HERE ARE SOME ADDITIONAL IDEAS TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE ESSAY PORTION OF THE MIDTERM EXAM:
- Read any additional guidelines your instructor may post about writing “significance” essays.
- Review previous modules and discussions to prepare for the Midterm Exam.
- Complete a few practice essays of your choice. The more you practice writing, the better prepared you’ll be!
- Your essays must be written in complete sentences, have well-developed and focused paragraphs, include a brief introduction and thesis, and have a conclusion.
- Your essays will be at least two pages in length, typed, double-spaced, and spell-checked.
- Your essays should include relevant vocabulary from previous modules.
- Please submit your essays to the Discussion by the close of Module 7.
- Please note that if you plagiarize this assignment (copy without documentation), you will receive zero credit, may fail the Midterm Exam, and you will be reported to the Academy of Art University administration for disciplinary action.
