- Find at least three images of different recording artists, athletes or entertainers to share with class. If possible find at least one that you think is very strong and defines the person well and one that fails to convey an image that is flattering or that conveys what the artist/athlete represents.
- Find at least one article about the “Right of Publicity” – this is the right that famous people have to control the use of their name, likeness, and commercial exploitation of their name and likeness.
- A few years ago, there was a lawsuit by Michael Jordan against someone who used his name and likeness in connection with Michael’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. See if you can find the lawsuit or an article that explains in detail what the lawsuit was about. We will discuss in class. What was the outcome of the case?
- Create a checklist of all the questions you want to ask a visual artist about their career, their goals, their current “situation” and anything else you think is important.
