(A)One common community health concern is overweight and obesity. This health condition can increase one’s likeliness of hypertension, type 2 disease, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and cancer. Childhood Obesity Facts states, “Data from 2015-2016 show that nearly 1 in 5 school age children and young people (6 to 19 years) in the United States has obesity” (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). Some health programs that can be directed towards this age group can be based around physical activity and education on sleeping patterns.

(B)Strategies that can be implemented to improve this community’s health is through early detection, education, and regular screenings. Providing education on how to detect signs of breast cancer at every wellness exam will help reduce the number of deaths by assisting women in learning and catching signs of cancer earlier. Also, teaching skin assessment education and conducting skin cancer education in all health wellness exams will help to benefit the community further. Information that should be shown is on how to detect signs of skin cancer, such as melanoma. To address lung cancer rates, the community can continue to offer smoking cessation programs to the members of the city.

(C)Health education programs are essential for the community to enhance preventative care. A community health problem that can benefit from a health education program is inclusive of the epidemic of the rise in sexually transmitted infections among the elderly population. Issues about sex are a frequent occurrence among the elderly population. For instance, statistics indicate that in the past decade, the rates of sexually transmitted infections have doubled among individuals aged forty-five and over (Golden & Wilson, 2017). Furthermore, sexual health is a crucial component because of the development of antibiotic-resistant strains of some sexually transmitted infections. The attribute that prevents the development of measures to assist the elderly population is a stigma about having a discussion on sexual issues with the elderly population. The number of elderly individuals testing positive for HIV is increasing, therefore, this demonstrates the need to prioritize sex education among this population.
