An important question regarding the boundaries of competence is the extent of training required to learn a new skill.  For example, Miller and Rose (2009) have concluded that research on training in motivational interviewing (MI) suggests that the day-to-day practice of providers typically does not substantially change after this brief exposure to MI.

For this assignment, begin by selecting a new technique such as motivational interviewing, and then locate and review a minimum of five articles, which discuss the length and intensity of training required to be effective and competent in your selected technique. In Annotated Bibliographic format, review, summarize, and evaluate the selected articles and their conclusions. Review the results, and then provide, in your own words, a 2 to 3-paragraph summary, including your recommendations. Be sure to cite the basis for your conclusions.
