research essay 100

Your final research essay is a 4-5 page research essay answering one of the prompts below. You will use scholarly research sources to support your thesis statement; this means you will use one quote from three different research articles (so there will be three research quotes total in the essay). You can use things you have written in your homework responses as drafts for this essay, but be sure you revise your responses (fix the errors).

Page length: 4-5 pages

Sources Required: 3 from library database (CREDO, JSTOR, Academic Search Compelte).

Format: MLA (double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, no cover page, title, etc.). Works Cited page in MLA format: see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_formatting_and_style_guide.html (Links to an external site.)

Prompts (select ONE prompt from below to write your research essay):

1. Discuss the benefits of feminism in Hip Hop.

2. Discuss the ways hip hop has changed since its beginnings and analyze whether these changes are overall a positive or a negative.

3. Discuss how an Afrocentric education can benefit HBCU students.

4. Discuss how African American poetry reclaims Africa and their overall representation of Africa as positive, negative, fictional, romanticized, etc. (Has to be poems we read in class).

Reminder:

*comma splice; I went to the store, and I bought food.

*run-on sentences;

*avoid first person (I/we/our); avoid second person (you)

*coherence/clarity

* 5 paragraph structure (intro with thesis as last sentence; body para 1, body para 2, body para 3; conclusion).

* If you plagiarize, depending on the amount, you could have points taken off to failing the entire assignment without the ability to re-submit it.
