Benefits of learning about third world development Benefits of learning about third world development The term ‘third world’ is mostly used to refer to countries that did not align themselves with the Communist Bloc and the NATO. Third world countries are usually ranked very lowly in terms of economic, political and social development. Learning about third world development has a number of benefits. It exposes people to the problems and contemporary issues that come with development. Learning about third world development puts one in a position to examine the environmental, socio-economic and political patterns in third world countries (Westra, 2011). This can speed up the rate of development in third world countries because one will understand the reasons why a country is underdeveloped in the first place.

Another benefit of learning about third world development is that it gives a learner the opportunity to explore the development gap between poor and rich regions and countries. Exploring the development gap can make it easier for people to understand how to bridge the gap.
