Reflection of Affectionate Communication

Question 1

Page 198-199 extrapolates the coming up stages in marriage relationship that highlights the affectionate communication between the couples. The first stage describes the differentiating stage where the couples begin to behave individually through the emphasis on differences. The stage gets characterized by the ability of the partners to undertake their activities separately as they make arguments on the differences (Guerrero et al., 2017). Also, the feeling of lonely, inadequacy, and confusion get reported by the partners hence creating questioning mechanism to implement the blame game. However, the differentiating stage can get reversed by the partners due to the fact that partners want to see themselves individually rather than as a unit. The stage helps in describing the uncoupling stage. The second stage is the circumscribing stage which occurs with the constriction o communication in both the breadth and depth. It is characterized by the small talk’s communication. The talks are tools for distancing oneself instead of learning more information about one another. The relationship may decline if the partners start the feeling of having noting to communicate about. The common communication medium is chatting, quick Snapchats (Guerrero et al., 2017). If the breakup occurs in the stage due to decrease in the self-disclosure and the negativity of the self-disclosure. In a situation of persisting relationship, the closeness erodes leading to frustration, misunderstanding and feel of distant. The third stage is the stagnating stage which characterizes the standstill relationship. The communication may become tense and awkward as the couples tend to give shot answers to questions. The couple feels of predicting what the partners will utter hence the communication become unproductive and unpleasant. The partners may decide to use the social media channel for communication.

The non-verbal and affectionate communication get described by the use of turning points in communication that defines the change in the relationship. The turning points examines the major rational events highlights the non-verbal and the indirect communication. Also, the non-verbal communication gets exhibited in the turning point through focusing on the mundane events as it emphasizes on minds of the couples (Guerrero et al., 2017). Notably, turning points are exhibited through celebrations and mementos like pictures and anniversaries hence creating an indirect communication to the partners. The mundane events in turning points help the couples observe the future of the relationship. The indirect communication in turning points get exhibited through telling the stories in the social networks. Improving my communication of affection involves processing my feelings, good timing mechanism of choosing the correct duration of having conversation, and focusing on the talking and listening skills (Guerrero et al., 2017). Also, creation of the compromise and resolution goals through setting the clear boundaries helps in improving the affection communication. Furthermore, regular checking in throughout the day and leaving notes to the partners will creates a physical and emotional attachment to strengthen the relationship.
