In brief, write 300-500 words on the political merits and political problems that your policy would face were it to come before a vote in a legislative body (or whatever body is appropriate to approve it, though most policies are likely to take the form of a bill). To clarify, while this most definitely can include a reference to the financial cost of your policy or other negative side effects, the way to think about these side effects for the purpose of this assignment is to ask about what effect they will have on the likelihood of your policy passing under a suitably sympathetic administration. Reminder: you aren’t an emperor. You don’t get to say something should be a law and then that happens. Legislative bodies of various sorts need to be crossed first, legal precedent needs to be followed (or an onerous process to overturn it must be engaged in), and deals of some sort will almost certainly need to be made. It’s also important to pay attention to any interested and powerful bodies who might feel one way or another about your policy, and to consider their response.

For the purposes of this assignment, this is to be more of an analytical think piece than a carefully cited research paper, to help your own thinking for your AP paper on what kind of (granted, imagined) political troubles your policy would/does face.
