•From the e-Activity find a graph that relates to your career, your education or an important decisions you have to make like do I buy a home or rent. Discuss the data that which the graph visually represents. How is this graph related to your career area of study or related to a personal decision you must make? Speculate on why the editor chose the graph, as opposed to merely reporting the data.

Week 3

Data Description” (Note: Please respond to the following;

•Use the attached spreadsheet to calculate the mean, median, and standard deviation for the Median Salary of the Best Jobs as ranked by US News and World Report. Now, I want you to use Excel for this exercise. You will find a short video IN THE INSTRUCTOR INSIGHTS showing you how to use the Statistical Functions in Excel. Learn these now and it will payoff.

•How many standard deviations are there between the mean and the highest paying job, surgeon? How many standard deviations are there between the mean and the lowest paying job, Home Health Aide?

•Is this distribution shaped like a normal distribution, bell shaped? Explain

Week 4

“Playing Games with Probability” Please respond to the following:

•Use the Internet to look up your state’s information on the state’s lottery games. Pick one of the games look over the rules and explain the game’s rules. What are the chances of winning, what is the advertised payout and what is the probability of winning your state’s lottery game? Now what is the expected value of winning? Not quite sure what we mean by expected value? See my discussion starter.

Note if your state doesn’t have a lottery, pick a state near by your home.

Week 5

“Real-Life Applications of Binomial Distribution” (Note: Please respond to one [1] of the following two [2] bulleted items)

•Provide one (1) real-life example or application of a binomial distribution. Explain how the example matches the conditions for the binomial distribution.

•Determine the conditions under which you would use a discrete probability distribution rather than a continuous probability distribution. Provide one (1) example to illustrate your reasoning.

Week 6

Normal Distribution” (Note: Please respond to one [1] of the following two [2] bulleted items)

•Take a position on whether or not the total area under a normal distribution is in?nite. Provide an example to support your response.

•From the e-Activity, discuss whether or not the winning history of the team you selected follows a normal distribution. Provide a rationale to support your response.

Week 7

“Confidence Intervals” (Note: Please respond to one [1] of the following two [2] bulleted items)

•The vast majority of the world uses a 95% confidence in building confidence intervals. Give your opinion on why 95% confidence is so commonplace. Justify your response.

OR

•Being able to understand and critically think about statistics presented to you is an important skill in your career. Find a published study of a research subject on which you might need to rely in your expected career which includes a margin of error as part of the report.

•Discuss what the margin of error means as applied to your selected poll or survey and how how that information provides aIDitional information beyond the point estimates reported. Be sure to include the link to your selected survey or poll.
