Assignment 2.1. Analyzing a Politically Charged Decision Making Scenario (10 points)
Read White, Harvey and Kemper’s The Politically Intelligent Leader to learn how to identify key players in a politically charged situation, how to analyze their political styles, potential blind spots that can affect an outcome, political strategies that can be used and potential ethical dilemmas you may encounter.
This assignment is based on Chapter 9, “Practicing What We Preach.” This chapter provides an example of how to analyze your scenario using these 7 questions. Other chapters in the book will provide you with important information on how to analyze political styles and blind spots, as well as a review of many political strategies from which you can choose to bring about the best outcome. This assignment will help to prepare you for Signature Assignment 4.1, Making an Ethical Decision in a Politically Charged Situation.
1. Prepare a written statement describing a “real life” decision making scenario with ethical implications that requires political insight (use of political power). Specifically describe the decision that must be made, the ethical issues and tell why it is politically charged.
2. Using the seven questions in Chapter 9, analyze the scenario and in your answers provide your recommendations for actions you should take to achieve the best results.
