Answer all THREE (3) of the following questions in the form of an essay. All LATE WORK will be reduced by one letter per hour it is late. There is NO NEED to print your answers once you upload them.
1) Describe the “5 Steps Involved in Helping†(LateneÌ & Darley 1970), to include the role of Clarke’s (1987) “Four Sympathy Rules.â€
2) Explain why individuals who may be characterized as having “tightly controlled identity structures†and/or who are “high self-monitors†are generally more susceptible to physiological, psychological, and emotional distress (Hint – this is from the Identity Control Theory slides).
3) Utilize the concepts of “primary deviance†and “secondary deviance†to explain the conflict between “Labeling Theory†and “Deterrence Theory†as it relates to recidivism (repeat offending). Feel free to draw on your knowledge of such things as “master statuses,†“stigmatization,†and/or perhaps the “self-fulfilling prophesy to formulate your answers.☺
