Persuasive Essay on Electronic medical Records versus Paper Records

The THESIS for the paper needs to be: Electronic Health Records (EHR) are the better way to go, they are more accurate, easier to read and understand, as well as they are faster to be able

to share with doctors’ offices and hospitals.

medicine, public health, and health services research
o    It is easier for doctors’ offices and hospitals to view the medical records.
o    Better accessibility in which records are not lost or damaged due to being in paper form.
III.    Reason 2 for Electronic Health Records (better accuracy)
€¢    More accurate and complete information about your health including your medical history, medications, and test results.
o    Accuracy ensures a patient will receive better care
o    Accuracy ensures a patient will receive correct care based upon their previous medical history.
IV.    Reason 3 for Electronic Health Records (more up to date)
€¢    When visiting a doctors’ office or emergency room your medical records are automatically updated as you are being seen by the caring physician.
o    The most up to date medical information possible
o    Available for physicians to see the most updated information every time you are seen,
V.    Counterargument: Paper Health Records are easier to use
€¢    Paper health records are easier to use and require minimal skill from the doctors and medical staff.
o    Without having knowledge of a computer paper health records are easier to use by far.
o    Paper health records are easier to keep track of.
VI.    Rebuttal to that viewpoint:
€¢    This day and age most doctors have an assistant that has knowledge of a computer.
o    Most companies now require medical personnel to have knowledge of a computer and certain programs.
o    Paper health records take up to much space in which electronic health records are easier to keep track of and faster to find.
VII.    Conclusion:  Because of Electronic Health Records (EHR) being the better way to go, they are more accurate, easier to read and understand, as well as they are faster to be able to share

with doctors’ offices and hospitals, therefore EHR is obviously the best choice for health records.
