OBSTACLES AND PITFALLS TO SUCCESS

Obstacles barriers or pitfalls that may influence the success of the plan

In conducting the plan, there are possibilities of rebellion among the staff in participation in the project. The staff might claim lack of sufficient time to participate or fatigue due to their load of work at the health care facilities. Failure to involve the staff might jeopardize the outcome since the information collected might not be reliable to make conclusions or a way forward for the study. Moreover, finding the right expertise or profession in the field with immense experience may not be easy. Some may not be available for the entire research hence an impediment to the research. The cultural diversity is a wide field of study which might have different experts specializing in different fields (Nestor, Loretta and Gutierrez, 2000).

In such circumstances, the research work will be hectic as in the process of finding the different experts in conducting the research. Such fields may include study of linguistics in the different culture, military experience and health, ethnicity and health, education background and its connection to health enhancement. Methods of finding the right people is difficult as to amount to lack of flow of relevant facts. It is worth noting that all this will be needed in the preparation for the study which might consume quite a lot of time. The time needed for implementation of the set targets will be elongated hence delay on the desired outcomes. The proposed plan might easily fail as a result of delayed implementation. Another possible obstacle is poor planning and underestimation of resources to be used. Failure to foresee the costs and make the correct forecast of the budget for the proposed plan might slow down the research process (Valuing Diversity 2000).

Factors that may influence those obstacles, barriers or pitfalls

The above mentioned factors may be influenced by ethnic values which might make some staff not to expose their beliefs and traditions. The attitudes and behaviors may be an aIDitional factor into the wider group’s dynamics. Such factors may influence different individuals and professions into providing the relevant information about their culture. Moreover, the professional ethics within the health sector which must at all be adhered to will affect the way information is shared among the researchers. Some ethical requirements demand that some vital information not to be shared regardless of the criticality and urgency involved. The quality of information collected will therefore be affected as it might lead to scientific fraud and malpractice hence to the overall research (Department of Health, 1991).

As a matter of fact, some of the information if needed will demand for the necessary procedures to be followed which will consume a lot of time. Lack of enough reconnaissance as to the requirements for the study might lead to the underestimation of the research budget. In making the right budget, there has to be a need for a good reconnaissance as to estimate the costs involved appropriately. Besides, failure to do a research synthesis to integrate the related primary research might lead to poor study or repetition of a research that has already been done (Royal College of Physicians of London, 2000). The research from such preparation may be harmful or unnecessary to the current way or systems of doing things. Furthermore, multicentre research and ethical evaluation in the process of research may not retain the autonomy of the decisions and their local acceptability. The follow up process may also be inadequate due to time limit available for the experts involved.
