Objective:Using a problem solving approach and in collaboration with the preceptor, the student will identify a need for quality improvement or a change in practice or policy in the practicum setting that can be addressed with an educational project for staff or clients/patients.Procedure for Completion of Project:With the preceptor’s input, the student should identify a project topic and plan early in the semester.In order to satisfactorily meet the requirements for NURS 4468 and earn credit for this portion of the course, the student must:1. Submit a Project Proposal to the faculty for approval before planning and implementation of the project. (Proposal due prior to completion of ½ the total hours of clinical practicum)2. Implement the teaching project3. Present results/outcomes of teaching project to peers and clinical group during clinical conference on December 5th (see grading rubric below)Project ProposalFormat for Project ProposalThe proposal should be prepared in a word document and submitted electronically as an attachment under the appropriate “Assignment”. The proposal will be a two-three page document written in APA format.The proposal should include a cover page and reference page. The student should use 15 references from primary scholarly sources (peer-reviewed journal articles) or credible professional resources. Accurate grammar, punctuation and spelling are expected; statements should be concise and brief in describing the project. Please refer to the grading rubric below. The proposal is due on October 24th by 11:59 PM.Faculty will review the proposal and offer guidance in order to approve the project before implementation.Students are expected to implement the project that is approved, or discuss substantive changes with faculty before implementation.Components of Proposal (20 points):1. Title page indicating:a. Title of Project,b. Student Name,d. Name of university2. Description of the settingProvide a brief description of the clinical agency and unit including facility type (acute/community/long term care, specialty, etc.; do not identify agency by name), size, geographic location and population served3. Purpose of the educational projectIdentify the problem/need for the project –why is the educational project needed in this setting at this time? Be sure to include evidence based data to support the need for the project, e.g. sources of information such as Patient Satisfaction Surveys, QI review data related to number of falls, number of medication errors, etc. in comparison to benchmark numbers.4. Design of the educational projecta. Topic of project – what is being presented?b. Method of presentation – how will it be presented e.g. class, poster, brochure, or pamphlet? Briefly list content to be included in the presentation.c. Audience – describe the target group for the educational project (e.g. staff orpatients/clients; age group; educational level)d. Student responsibilities – describe the student’s responsibilities in planning and implementing the project as well as the expectations for the preceptor (ex. Will the preceptor be responsible for making sure staff attends?)5. Method(s) for evaluating effectiveness of the project – (i.e., pre and posttests.//, surveys, etc.) must be compatible with description of projecta. Short Term Learning Goal n What is expected at the completion of the project (e.g. increased scores on test regarding new procedure, practice, policy, etc.?) n State the short term expected outcome for learning in objective, measurable and realistic termsb. Long Term Goal nWhat would you like to see as the long term goal of the project? (e.g., adoption of change in practice, procedure, policy as evidenced by improved patient/client outcomes; fewer incidents/errors in a specific area; improved patient/client satisfaction; etc.) n State the long term expected outcome/goal in objective, measurable and realistic terms. Identify when this will be measured and by whom.
