My Life And Philosophy

I truly believe that philosophy is constructed instead of being discovered. When I found out that I had to write an entire essay on the philosophy of my life, it was evident to me that it was going to be a challenge. There have been times when I wished that I was so much older, and everybody had always told me to slow down and take things one day at a time. I know am only seventeen, but as high school has passed by so quickly, I have realized to slow down and to stop speeding through life and make it the best I can. It seems like everybody is always in such a big rush to get to where they are going. I know I only live once, so why not enjoy it by living life to its fullest and focusing on the task at hand. Life to me is a lot like driving with your headlights on, you can’t see that far away but eventually you’ll reach your destination. We don’t know what the future holds and of course, we are all very anxious to find out.

On the road of life there are obstacles and with those obstacles come risks we must take. I understand that life is hard sometimes and focusing on goals is an absolute must. Staying focused, making good choices and common sense play immense roles in our everyday decisions. With that said, is how I try to live my life no matter what is thrown at me, I just allow a little breathing room. Life is what we make it, always has been and always will be. Accomplishing tough obstacles that come my way by judging the situation and making good choices is my philosophy on life. Just like having potholes in the road, many things represent the misfortunes in life. I love taking risks especially when they pay off in the end because that’s what allows me get closer to my dreams.

If I sat back and isolated myself from what’s really out there, I would be holding myself back from so many possible experiences. Experience is also something that allows you to live your life to the fullest, and protects you from making the same mistake twice.

Patience is something everybody must have in driving and even more in life. To me patience is one of the most admirable qualities a person can possess. Not only does it make them a stronger person, but it helps them with life choices and the hard situations that come. Without patience, any given person would be rushing through life which would result in not allowing themselves to see the little things that matter. That’s the best way to miss out on so many opportunities that may arise. Patience can reduce accidents or in other words, for example problems in life. Sometimes all it takes is time for intricate situations to roll over and relieve ones mind. It’s important to know your surroundings and by rushing you can’t possibly do that. Remembering to pay attention will help you out in the long run. Not only will it help on the road but more along the lines of life in general. It can help you with future job opportunities, future relationships, but most importantly it can help you with the way you decide to live your life.

Driving has its own multicultural society of its own, just like the real world. All drivers discriminate and stereotype at one point or another. If you think about

it, the road actually can be related to a multicultural society in many ways for example; “Filipinos can’t drive” or “Oh, what a nice car; it’s probably stolen, look at the driver”. All of those stereotypes have been said, not only by fellow drivers but police officers as well. A lot of officers use stereotypes to single out an individual. As for instance, you have to watch out for cops, there are good cops and there are bad cops. For cops, it is their job to stereotype against people especially on the road. Cops judge people by their race, color, physical appearance and even the type of vehicle they are driving. Sometimes that can be an excellent factor when searching for a specific variety of criminals. In another way, it can cause a lot of confusion with subjects that might fit a description or stereotype, but really have no relation to the crime at all. Maybe you happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. The police are a major obstacle on the road; always have been and always will be. You just have to keep in mind your objective is to stay focused and if you’re not doing anything immoral there will be nothing to worry about.

Accomplishing tough obstacles is something that I have allowed myself to be good at. I’m able to read a situation that comes my way and without jumping to conclusion, I’m able to make an intelligent assumption that will enable me to move forward in a positive manner. To me living life at a pace and not speeding through it seems like the right way for me to live my life. Being independent isn’t always about doing things on your own without the need of guidance. It is also about making educated decisions that come from within. Being able to see your future without needing someone to spell it out for you is a strong quality that I hope to possess. In my short lifetime I have learned to take charge and to face problems instead of avoiding them. Not only does being independent help me with my problems, but it has helped me grow as an individual. I look at every day as a lesson no matter what is going on. As I get older I see more of the bigger picture rather than believing what I want and my philosophy gets stronger with that.

When I was younger I used to act like something I wasn’t. In Nellie Wong’s poem “WHEN I WAS GROWING UP” she talks about how she longed to be white in many ways; my situation is a little similar. Especially since I am bi racial I’ve felt like I’ve had to “empress” certain people to fit in. It was until I started growing up that I realized that just wasn’t me. I don’t have to change myself for anybody and my real friends will understand that and love me for who I am. To this day I am very proud of who I have become and how I’ve gotten to where I am today. I am glad to be different from others and content with my culture. I am sure that is not something that most people can say. Being bi racial has taught me to appreciate diversity and kept me interested in learning about other cultures.

In conclusion life is a lot like driving, it is what you make of it; if you turn your life into a big rush you’ll miss it before it even starts and end up living in regret later. Patience, determination and independence are all good qualities you should possess if you want to live your life in a successful manner. If stress plays a big part in your life it might cause you to want to quit at something you might end up being great at. You can’t allow yourself to focus of the negativity of life, because it will only end up hurting you in the end.
