Introduction

Marijuana in most parts of the united states have remained to be criminalized due to the association of the drug with criminal activities, but as it has downed, the need to legalize marijuana is rising forcing most of the countries to decriminalize the use as well as the possession of marijuana. Marijuana has numerous benefits and the efforts to legalize it will reduce the black market business and in turn reduce the rate of incarceration in the United States.

Thesis: Marijuana has its use in various fields such as the medical field and therefore has accrued numerous health benefits as well as economic benefits for the states where pot has been legalized.

Medical uses of marijuana

Marijuana is used in the treatment of Glaucoma by decreasing the pressure inside the eye and therefore makes it able to reduce the complications resulting from the condition.

Marijuana assists in reversing the carcinogenic effects that are instilled in the body by tobacco smoking and therefore plays a significant role in improving the health of the lungs as well as the increase in the lung capacity.

Marijuana can be used in the control of epileptic seizures as cannabinoids which are the active ingredients of marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are responsible for the control of seizures through binding to the brain cells that are responsible for the control of excitement as well as the regulation of relaxation.

Cannabidiol also (CBD), helps in preventing cancer from spreading by turning off the gene Id-1.

The use of cannabis helps in easing the pain that is caused by multiple sclerosis THC compound that is found in marijuana binds with the receptors in the nerves and muscles to relieve the pain.

Alleviates the pain and therefore relieves the discomfort that is caused by Arthritis infections through reducing inflammation thereby promoting sleep among the patients

Marijuana use helps in keeping the user’s body skinny and as well as helping in improving the metabolism of the user.

Weed smoking elevates the appetite of the user

Economic benefits of marijuana

Creation of job opportunities in the farms and vending of the product

Generation of revenue through taxation

Infrastructure development such as roads

Increase in the country’s gross domestic product

Sustainable economy due to more exports of the commodity.

Conclusion

The benefits arise from the medical use, leisure, health and as well to the overall economy. Billions of money are deprived of the government due to the presence of the laws and policies that prohibit the use of the drug compelling thousands of people to indulge in the black market. Legalizing marijuana will create more job opportunities, and this will have an effect of reducing the crime rates and as well as the rate of incarceration.
