Introduction
Language planning is a premeditated endeavor to influence the structure, the function or the language acquisition or variety of language within a speech-community. Language planning is commonly connected with the government planning, although it is also used by various non-governmental organizations, for instance the proletariat organizations and individuals. Language planning goals vary depending on the organization or nation, but in general they include making decisions on planning and perhaps making changes for the advantage of communication. Planning or enhancing effectual communication can also lead to other different social changes like language assimilation or shift, thus providing another different motivation to plan the function, the structure and the acquisition of languages.
Language Planning in Prunia
Often many countries make a distinction among varieties which are chosen as national language or languages and those that are grouped as the official languages. A national language is supposed to function as representation or a symbol of a country’s special identity, like a national anthem or a national flag. It should for that reason be a language which is truly felt to be representing the people of that particular nation and can also help in unifying the citizens or the people with a sense of togetherness and belonging as one people.
To attain or realize such nationalist feelings, it is in point of fact possible for a single nation to identify more than one language as having the status of a national language. Prunia as a country which has just attained its independence they need some language policies that can help their country in establishing itself successfully and be a lucid new state. Language policy does not only include the regular choice patterns but it also include the beliefs concerning these choices, the values of variants and of varieties and also most importantly, the efforts that are made by some to make changes on the beliefs and choices of others.
The first step that should be considered is to study the actual linguistic ecology or the language practices. Fundamental to comprehending language policy is the recognition that all ecologies of linguistic are multifaceted contextualized repertoires of units of linguistic of various sizes that can be seen as consolidating from one time to another into decipherable linguistic varieties that are at times accorded a label or a name. Language is one of the main elements when it comes to construction of any human groups.
Language policy ought to describe the nation’s language profile and this includes knowing the number of languages in that nation , the dialects that are spoken, how many people speech each and every language and also the different roles that each and every language plays in that society. Prunia should choose French as the national language because having being under the colonial governance of France, the language plays an important role in the society. The ability to speak French will be an added advantage to Prunia because it will be a benefit on the global job market. French knowledge will open French companies’ doors in Prunia and this will be very helpful for their growing economy.
Even though, in the past nations used policies of language mostly to promote a single official language at the expense of some others, several countries nowadays have these policies designated to promote and protect ethnic and regional languages whose viability is at risk. Language policy is what a particular government enacts both officially through legislation or the decision made by courts to establish how languages’ in their countries are used. They also cultivate skills of language that are needed to meet national precedence or at times establish the groups’ or individuals’ rights to maintain and use languages.
Prunia as a country should reinforce some measures such as teaching French in school to make sure that this language is well understood and many can use it. Some languages that are currently spoken in Prunia can disappear. A language can disappear due to various factors such as: the size of the native speakers of that language, its usage in the formal or official communication, the socioeconomic weight and the geographical dispersion of its speakers. Policies of languages can either alleviate or aggravate the effects of these contributing factors. In Prunia, French should be advocated and promoted so that many people can have interest in it. Universal truths about the value of learning this language should be told to increase the desirability and the visibility of this language. France colonized Prunia and so many people are conversant with it. Which language to select and which language to promote is a very important decision in every country. The importance of selecting a particular language to be a national language is very crucial for the development of any country. At times this choice is rather simple and obvious.
However in some cases this choice can also be very difficult when the government or any other non-governmental organization goes ahead to select from their indigenous languages. When a country gains independence, it gets that right to choose its own national or official language. French knowledge can be spread throughout the Prunia population as much as possible and this can be done effectively by introducing it in the public education curriculum and the government can also introduce it in the adult education system.
Many people living in Prunia are patriotic and idealistic and so introducing another foreign language as their national language can be rather difficult but this can be otherwise if people are helped to understand why this is important for the development of their country. This may hurt their patriotic feelings but making one of their languages a national language would be worse. Choosing from their own languages can also be very tricky. The choosing can divide people of Prunia because they will feel that a certain community is more appreciated than the other. They can feel dominated by that community which its language had been made the national language.
All languages in Prunia are equal and none of them should be made superior. This national language from their own country can also trap them and their socializing with other developed countries can be limited. These languages are not known by other people and so this can be a set-back in their economic development. Without a favorable mode of communication there can never be developments. French will be able to link Prunia to other different countries be cause they share a language. French is a beautiful language that has a rich custom/tradition and has also several practical uses. The decision to make French a national language can take Prunia to astounding number of places.
French will be most favorable because they do not have to choose between their own languages.
Prunia people are patriotic but this does not mean if they introduce another language in their system will destroy that. French as a national language will be doing them a lot of good than harm. They need a language that will take them out there, that can link them with the world at large. Refusing to learn a different language that can help their country develop economically and socially will be due to ignorance nut not patriotism. It’s always good to be loyal to our country but not at the expense of our growth and development. French is widely taught and used by many West African countries as their official language and Prunia should not be an exception. French is a universal language and it can be of great help to the growth and the development of Prunia.
In such a large and a diverse, it is vital to encourage our people of Prunia to come up with a national identity. A general language is the key aspect in achieving the predetermined goal in Prunia. Communicating using one language is very vital in preserving Prunia’s national unity. The language may not be originally theirs but it can be of great essence. This will not mean that the people of Prunia are not patriotic anymore but its doing what is good for their nation. Every country needs support from the world and so the link of communication is imperative.
Prunia indigenous languages are not known by people who are not from Prunia and this can and will always limit their interaction with other countries. French is best known by many different countries because it’s global. They can use their languages locally and this will not stop them from being patriotic. The indigenous languages are never used nationally and so they are not relevant. Usage of the national language in official documents will guarantee that the language remains applicable in the commercial world. French is used in Prunia when writing newspapers and in official matters because it’s relevant in the market world.
Gurblians make up approximately 30% of the population of the Prunia-when affronted. Mass media can be of great help when it comes to promoting a national language. This however creates reflexive or passive understanding of a language rather than the facility to speak it. Other optimistic incentives that can be of much help may include offering finances or other rewards to the workers of the government and also to the writers so that they can use this language.
More negatively, some nations have introduced punishments to those people who do not use that designated language in some specific domains like in schools, places of work and in government offices. Governments can also make use of propaganda to influence people to speak a particular language. In some other newly independent nations, imaginative planners of language have also found some new ways to get members of the public to speak that selected language. The spread of a national language can at times be difficult and challenging and especially if who are intended to speak it do not co-operate. Considerable effort is however very much needed from the government to stress the value of that language.
The population of the state must also be encouraged to take pride in this new language and focus on its prestigious nature. Language policies are very crucial for any developing country. These policies define a country and they unify people because a language can unite people: it brings about a sense of belonging. Ralluan language is mostly used in Prunia but there are no language policies to define this language. Most literature is also in that language. Ralluans comprise of approximately 10% pf Prunia population. French should however be designed as the national language since local administrators and most city dwellers speak French.
Conclusion
Prunia is not a rich country and so this may affect the establishment of official/national language policies. Language policy is what a particular government enacts both officially through legislation or the decision made by courts to establish how languages’ in their countries are used. Despite the Prunia’s native having their own indigenous language , they need French to enable them communicate to the society as a whole. They also cultivate skills of language that are needed to meet national precedence or at times establish the groups’ or individuals’ rights to maintain and use languages. Language policies are very important; they define the national and the official languages of a state and other indigenous languages in a country. In this case French is the ideal language that Prunia ought to embrace since it has a well developed writing form that enables first learners too understand. Its vocabulary and grammar are also precise a factor will enable the Prunia’s to learn fast.
