Journal 1: Diagnostic
In this assignment, you will practice attaching assignments using the “Assignments” tool and writing objectively and subjectively by considering your first name and what it means. You will write about your name in two parts:
1. In one paragraph, write the verifiable facts about your name: What it means, how you got it, how to spell it, what your nickname is, who else has your name. Stick with what other people would agree upon–and leave your point of view out of it. Try to write at least one paragraph.
2. In a separate paragraph, write about your name “from the inside out” as only you could write it. Make it highly subjective, exploring how your name feels to you–and surprise yourself. If you are writing only what you know, it’s nonfiction without a creative leap.
