Instructions: 1 page, single space, times new roman 12. Answer the questions below (bold):Most studies confirm that the concept of power is central to understanding sexual harassment. It’s about an individual controlling or threatening another individual, and it’s wrong. Sexual harassment is defined as any unwanted activity of a sexual nature that affects an individual’s employment. This includes unwanted physical touching, recurring requests for dates when it is made clear the person isn’t interested, off-color jokes, inappropriate comments, and coercive threats that a person will lose his/her job if he/she refuses a sexual proposition. Many romantic relationships are started in the workplace. A few recent surveys have estimated that that over 40% of employees in the US, Canada, and other countries have dated a coworker. One poll found that 25% of employees say that have had intimate relations with a coworker. One problem with this trend is that office romances don’t mix very well with organizational power. One concern is that nearly 25% of sexual harassment cases result from workplace romances that went sour. Another concern is that co-workers tend to notice how employees in the relationship abuse their power by favoring each other, particularly where one person in the relationship has higher status.Although some firms actively prohibit intimate or romantic relationships between employees, this policy isn’t very realistic. If prohibiting workplace romances is unrealistic, what steps should organizations take to minimize the risks of sexual harassment and perceived favoritism resulting from workplace romances?Should employees be required to disclose their intimate relationships with co-workers? Should they be required to sign a document indicating that the relationship is consensual to reduce the risk that one party will later claim the relationship occurred through an abuse of power? Should they be required to remove themselves from that person’s team or be removed from a position of power over their partner?1. Please comment on the above alternatives (as well as other alternatives) that organizations use to deal with workplace romances. Recommend a policy that will help protect organizations from costly lawsuits and that makes sense to you.
