Evaluating Sources and Source Mining

For this assignment you will turn in:

1. Two C.R.A.A.P.O. Evaluations
   
2. A 200-300 word summary and reflection of your evaluations and source mining process and findings

Part A: Evaluating Sources

Use this form: C.R.A.A.P.O Evaluation

For the first part of this assignment, you will fill out the C.R.A.A.P.O test evaluation for two of your resources from your Unit four assignment. You will assign a score to your resources at the end. Next, reflect and analyze your findings in 200-300 words. Did your resource pass the C.R.A.A.P.O test? Did anything surprise you? Was any part of the C.R.A.A.P.O test difficult to confirm or deny? What else did you discover?

Part B: Source Mining

Using either the same two sources from Part A or two new sources that align with your topic, find a study, another article, information or a conclusion that your source references. Your sources might cite another study, statistics, a news story or another documented source. If your source doesn’t directly cite a source, use evidence such as a person’s name, workplace (such as a company or educational institution) and subjects to find the original source. Ask yourself, “Where did this information come from?” Use what you have learned in this unit to find the original information. You can try searching for the referenced source online, in the library databases, or at a local library. Next, document your and analyze your process and results in detail including:

• Your search process: keywords, subject, author.
• Where you went to search and the results
• If you were able to find the entire source, a piece of it, or just a citation
• Did the original source match the information in your source? What did you learn about this source in the process?

(300-400 words)

Your paper must be three to four double-spaced pages in length and include

A title page with the following:

• Title of paper
• Name
• Course name and number – Instructor’s name
• Date
• A separate references page

It is important that the paper is in proper APA format. Refer to the General APA Guidelines from Purdue OWL for more information.
