How to Write For This Class

Writing well is an important form of self expression. It can be considered an art that combines skill, technicality and purpose in order to convey an intended message to the reader. In order t write well, one must not only understand a lot about their subject matter but also about themselves and the world in general. It is an expression of the writer’s personality and intent. There are several important pointers to note in order to make the writing process as effective as possible.

The first of this is to make sure that you have enough time to write your work and not just to meet deadlines but to do a good job at it. Ideas should be carefully formulated in the mind with enough time to mull over different ideas and to take into consideration the opinions of others such as peers and other informed parties. Texting will tend to be a major influence on writing skills that should be resisted, especially in the use of short forms as it signals a lack of seriousness.

When writing, the writer’s goal will often to be as perfect as possible but this is an impossible goal. The efforts towards perfection may even backfire if the writer borrows from other languages simply to make an impression. The main goal of writing should be to communicate to the reader. Clarity is another point; make sure that all the pertinent information is given in an unbiased manner without any assumptions behind it. Furnish the reader with all information so that they are convinced by your writing. Assumptions should also be questioned and if possible challengesd as this shows a critical thinking on the part of the writer. They do not simply accept what is said.

Depth is an important part of writing. This applies to both your own work and the analysis of others’ work. Analysis should be supported with facts but should not be stated explicitly. The author’s intention should be made as clear as possible and summarizing should be left at a minimum. The content of the written work should be examined in great detail in order to make the piece as informative as possible. Implications of all information should be made clear to the reader so that they understand how the whole piece of writing comes together.

While detailed writing is an important part of writing, this should not be mistaken for depth. One need not spend too much time on superficial information that does not contribute to the actual subject matter. It is important to be as precise as possible in order not to create confusion for the reader who may infer wrong conclusions or interpretations from the piece of writing.

The grading rubric will take into account all the aspects of writing discussed above. In order to earn the highest range of points, the student should have adhered to almost all if not all of the criteria provided. The criteria include the use of appropriate grammar, show of depth and precision in writing, and avoid fallacies while still providing a good argument. In addition to this, relevance of information should be considered alongside the awareness and consideration of the weakness of one’s own ideas accompanied by appropriate responses. Points will be awarded based on the number of criteria that the writer meets, with fewer points as the number of criteria met drops.
