Hills like a white elephant

The short story “hills like a white elephant” is important to the reader as it elaborates the love and life between the American and the girl in the story and how they are after happiness. As they sit in the shade at the station looking at the hills which look like a white elephant, they take their beer and talk about their love as they travel together. They talk about how they could have everything; the world and again how it can be taken from them and they can never have it back. This shows the reader that not everything lasts forever. The girl doesn’t want the American to do anything for her if he doesn’t want to. Even though it’s the right thing and it could make her happy and she would love him. The story talks about two people who are in love and they want to be happy, they also travel the world together and they want to have the whole world but they can’t have it

The short story “hills like a white elephant “portray how the American and the girl travel the world together. They are at a shade which was close to a station. They are waiting for the train which arrives in forty minutes from Barcelona and will only stop at the junction for only two minutes then leave for Madrid. The girl says that all they should do is travel look at new things and try new drinks. Trying new drinks means that they like trying to do new things as they travel. The American says that he will go with her everywhere and he will stay with her and they will figure out what to do afterward. This shows that he is willing to travel the world with her as long as it makes both of them happy. It also shows that the American is sacrificial, he puts the girl’s happiness before his. He is certain that it’s the best thing to do and it will make them happy. He says that they know of so many people who have done it and they were all happy afterward. The American gets up to move their bags to the other side of the station but he did not see the train coming and he goes back to wait for it. They had traveled before and they were very happy about this journey.

The American and the girl are in love. They are always together since they always travel the world together which strengthens the bond between them. The American is willing to go with the girl anywhere as long as it makes the both of them happy. The American thinks that if he goes with her around the world will make her love him more and everything will be nice again but she says she already loves him and he knows that she does. She says that it means something to her and she does not anyone else but him. The American is willing to do anything for the girls to make them happy. The American says he doesn’t care about himself; all he cares about is the girl. They care about each other’s feelings and they don’t want any to do something if they do not want to. This shows that they love each other.

All they want is to be happy. They travel the world and try new drinks, this is something that makes both of them happy. Even if the girl is afraid that they will be unhappy he is certain that they will be happy afterward and happy as they were before. This shows that the American is positive; he believes that they will be happy afterward. They both admit to having known a lot of people who have done it and they were happy afterward. The American is willing to go anywhere and everywhere and to stay with her so as they become happy. The girl is happy with their conversation at the beginning of the story. The American stops talking just to make the girl happy since it’s her wish that he stops talking. The girl wants to have a world that will make her happy, which is a world with the American.

In conclusion, in the short story “hills like a white elephant” the American and the girl, are in love and they love to travel the world together. They are not afraid of trying new things as they travel and they are willing to do anything for each other and to go anywhere as long as they are both happy.
