HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS 1. (A) A subject receiving great attention in health services management research and practice is the quality of care. Define and give examples of the three dimensions of quality: structure, process, and outcome. Briefly describe some of the difficulties encountered in the definition and measurement of these dimensions. (B) Why has the attention to, and measurement of health-related-quality-of-life (HRQoL) become so important in recent years? Do we have reliable and valid instruments to measure HRQoL? Give example instruments and explain how you would use one. 2. Briefly describe the current managed care enrollment trends for Medicare and Medicaid. Identify the major drivers behind these trends. What do you think are the major advantages and disadvantages of applying managed care models to elderly and low-income women and children? What evidence do we have from the relevant literature to support your own views? 3. Briefly define an œintegrated delivery system (IDS). Discuss the major reasons for the emergence of the IDS in the U.S. Do you believe that these systems will improve the health outcomes and health status of the populations served? Why? Why not? What evidence do we have from the relevant literature to support your own views?
