DATE: October 4, 2020 TO: English 211 students FROM: Steve McCartney SUBJECT: Revised process description Original process description As the Earth’s surface water evaporates, wind moves water in the air from the sea to the land, increasing the amount of freshwater on land. Water vapor is converted to clouds that bring fresh water to land in the form of rain snow and sleet. Precipitation falls on the ground, but what happens to that water depends greatly on the geography of the land at any particular place. Source: ​https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_cycle Reformatted description PHASES The 3 phases of the water cycle have to be in this order, but one of them isn’t the starting phase; any of them could start: Evaporation Liquid water heats and turns into its gaseous state (vapor). Condensation Water vapor cools until it is in liquid form, albeit small. Precipitation Tiny droplets of liquid water fall from the sky. CYCLE When liquid water gets hot, it ​evaporates​ and rises. Later when it cools, it ​condenses​. Once it’s heavy enough, it ​precipitates​ as rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Narrative I extrapolated the actions/events from the prose description, making sure I could identify the verb form of each. Then, I made sure I derived the noun form of each verb. I listed them in order, but unnumbered, since this cycle could really begin anywhere. Finally, I added a prose paragraph following what happens to the molecule. But I used verb forms instead of nouns, and used italics because they’re inline and not in privileged positions like the list items above it
