There are various ways that can be used to identify the hazardous material such as placards that provide information of the hazard material such as words and symbols. This information assists in identifying the leaking gas. The substance can also be identified by inquiring from the driver of the track about the content of what he is transporting. The radius of the initial isolation zone can be identified on the basis of the hazard zone the gas is classified under in this case it is 0.03 Kilometers. The magnitude of each side of the protective-action zone associated with the release of this substance is about 1.2 kilometers since the leakage occurred at night (Kettrup, 2001).

When it is noted that there is a leakage of the gas, the area should be isolated and only those wearing the appropriate protective clothes should remain within the area. The proper type of PPE will be identified based on the main routes of exposure of the leaking gas. The routes of exposure for this gas include inhalation, skin and eye contact. Once the route of exposure is determined, the appropriate PPE can be chosen. The PPE that can be used in this situation include eye/face protection such as face shield and safety goggles. For skin protection the PPE to be used include gloves, boots, and aprons. For protection against inhalation of the gas, one can use an air-purifying respirator.
