You will now put all your research and outline together to write a 700 – 800 word essay that focuses on how the US Federal Government has interacted with your topic. Remember that this should be a government paper, not a history paper. You should focus on effects of government action on people’s lives today and in the recent past, and how the various branches of government deal with the your chosen topic. The paper should emphasize the United States government and its role. Your paper should present a balanced view of the facts, not an opinion piece. Because it is a research paper, you are required to use at least three outside sources to support your information. Use the rubric on Page 2 to make sure that you are including all the information that the grader is looking for.
When writing the paper, focus on how each of the three branches of the US Government has addressed the topic. You should have an introductory paragraph that includes your thesis statement, at least one paragraph for each branch of government and their interaction with your topic, and a concluding paragraph that sums up your paper. Make sure that your introduction is a brief overview of why your topic is important and how you will be talking about it. Make sure your conclusion does not introduce new information, but simply summarizes your paper. In your paper’s body, you should mention and cite specific examples of how each branch has addressed your chosen topic and how that topic has affected the people of the United States and beyond. Make sure to avoid using the use of personal pronouns (I, me, us, we) and consistently use third person perspective.
