please use the gibbs reflective cycle to follow this scenario, you can google it, you need to include why things are done I commenced at 7am in the renal ward and there were three other rn’s on that I could straight away see everyone was working within a team.I had to check a fistula with the supervision of my RN buIDy. We were about to enter the area where VRE patients were. This entailed us to perform strict PPE, in order not to spread this. We gathered equipment needed we washed our hands prior to putting on the following PPE gown, gloves, and glasses. We need this also as we are dealing with blood. Talk about useing aseptic technique. I asked the patient if he wouldn’t mind me touching the fistula so I could feel if it was working properly. The rn had told me if it is working properly it will create a buzzing feeling once it has been touched. It did this and it was very strong. It was explained to me that some are stronger than others. I removed my noirmal gloves, washed my hands again and placed on sterile gloves ensuring I used the sterile way of placing them on. I RN then guided me to prepare the pack useing a strict sterile technique. This is needed before a patient can be hooked up to a dialysis machine I did very well at ing for my first attempt I was told. She had grabbed a spare pair of sterile gloves and placed it out on the table next to my sterile field I had noticed. During this procedure I was to draw up 2ml of Heparin, but I had picked the heparin container up in my finger tips and she then explained my hands were no longer sterile. I immediately knew what she was saying, she then took over keeping her gloves sterile at all times. I watched on. This is something I need to practice.
