For your final paper, you will be conducting independent research into a freedom-of speech issue of your own choice. This assignment is purposefully very broad to allow you to find a topic that truly interests you. Be sure the topic you choose is still narrow and specific enough to fully explore. You’ll need around 5-7 sources; as many of these as possible should come from the online databases. In addition to discussing the contents of your outside sources, produce some original discussion of the topic, providing your own well-supported insights, solutions, and perspectives, which illuminates the subject, but which have not been treated in the research materials. Be sure to summarize, paraphrase, and quote from your sources, but devote at least 2/3 of the paper to your own language and ideas.As always your discussion should be well-written (clarity, coherence, correctness,precision); refer to the terminology, reading material, and class material accurately and insightfully; reflect substantial effort; and be accessible to an intelligent audience who has not attended class. Do not plagiarize: Most of this paper should be your writing and not the writing of others. You must acknowledge your sources by title or website URL, and give page numbers for paraphrased or cited language. Remember that language cited verbatim belongs in quotation marks. Your paper should be 5-7 pages of double-space text in a legible, 12-point font.
