Forum Week 7a. Critically Thinking Through the Scientific Literature (300 words)

Should college athletes be paid? In 2018, the LSU football team made a profit of around $56.1 million. Their expenses were $30.1 million. Their basketball team made $1.6 million, and LSU has one of the only national baseball teams to make a profit. They earned half a million. No other sports at LSU made money.

You are to look for a scientific, peer-reviewed research article on this topic. The best place is the library or PubMed. Do not report on a peer-reviewed review paper on the topic. A review paper summarizes several original research papers. You can use a review to help you find a scientific study. Also, a research study paper usually has the following sections: abstract, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, figures and tables. A review paper does not have these sections.

In your initial Forum post:

• list your selected article
• provide the reference for your chosen article
• describe the study and the results
• state what the study concludes
• evaluate the article. Do you think the study made appropriate conclusions from its data? Was the study designed correctly to address the hypothesis?
• Finally, provide your opinion on the matter. Be sure to justify your position.

Forum Week 7: Intrinsic Motivation and Self-Determination. (300 words min)

In Week 7 we critically analyze both preparation and performance. Cognitive Evaluation Theory addresses the perception of our competence and how we develop intrinsic motivation and apply rewards to learning and performance.
After completing all assigned readings and lecture notes:

Using sport related examples, illustrate the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. What kind of rewards would you use to enhance intrinsic motivation, and what are some reward examples that would be extrinsic in nature. Lastly, what is meant by, token reward, how and where does this concept apply to learning and performance?
