final portfolio 17

instructions

This portfolio is your change to demonstrate that (A) you’ve honed your skills as an argumentative writer and (B) you understand how to write for different audiences. For this project, you will be revising selected projects for a very different audience from the ones that you initially wrote for. You should select and describe, in detail, who this audience is, as well as their attitude towards your topic (will they be receptive? Bored? Hostile? Indifferent? Supportive? How will you get their attention?) and how this factor into the approach you take in your new, revised pieces of writing.

– Your final portfolio needs to contain two fully revised, edited, and polished documents, each developed from one of the 4 original projects that you have written for this class. These two entries will be each be accompanied by a reflective introduction to me in the form of a memo explaining:

  • the *new* audience,
  • their attitude towards your topic
  • the purpose of the revised piece, and how it has changed from the purpose of the original piece
  • explanation of how you appealed to the new audience using, ethos, pathos, and/or logos
  • stasis point (or type of argument: fact, definition, evaluation, proposal) under which your argument falls

– We have emphasized revision all semester; thus, sentence level changes are simply not enough to demonstrate that you have learned to revise. You will be revising these two projects so that they fulfill a new purpose for a new audience, for which you will need to use different rhetorical strategies. You can choose the genre that you would like for this audience; feel free to be creative and explore electronic and other forms of media!

Details
You don’t need to keep precisely to your original topic (or task or problem) in revising any given writing project, but it can serve as a starting point. The important thing is submitting two new pieces of work that provide good examples of argumentative writing for a new audience. You may need to add, delete, and move parts or sections. You might find that the genre of writing needs to change for the piece to make sense to the new audience, or that you want to explore different types of media (electronic or otherwise) for the new pieces. You should format your Introduction as a memo to me as follows:

A successful introduction, which should accompany each revised piece, will specifically explain the choices you made in assembling this portfolio, and they will also make and support claims about your learning in this course. At the most basic level, the introduction needs to state what is included in the portfolio and why, the changes that you made to the audience, purpose, and context of each piece, a detailed description of the new audiences, their attitudes towards your topic, and the rhetorical strategies that you used to most effectively reach that audience.

Following your introductory memo, you can attach or copy and paste the original works so that I can see the changes that you made in your new pieces. Then, please attach or continue your document to include your revisions.

Format and prepare your completed portfolio by the due date. Carefully edit your work. Be aware that all errors and mistakes, especially those that distract your reader, will lower your grade.
Your portfolio should include the original pieces as well, edited and polished along with the revised pieces.

…………………………………………………………………….

# I need it Dec 16, on the -final portfolio file- I already started one argument, the original and the revision. I need to revise the gun control argument and have a new audience. also including 2 “reflection” for each summarizing these points:

the purpose of the revised piece, and how it has changed from the purpose of the original piece

explanation of how you appealed to the new audience using, ethos, pathos, and/or logos

stasis point (or type of argument: fact, definition, evaluation, proposal) under which your argument falls

for the first argument I want the genre of the revision to be Facebook post, you can choose any genre for the second argument, (infographic, YouTube video script, letter, blog post, speech or podcast script)

there is example also but it’s messing some parts
