FIND A PROBLEM- What do you want to know? Be curious, choose a limited subject; ask a question; identify or originate/define a problem

RESEARCH THE PROBLEM- What is already known and written about the problem?

Review a minimum of three (3) published materials related to your problem or question and provide a summary of each article/study (ie, what was studied, what was the methodology, what was learned/results).

FORM A HYPOTHESIS- Answer your questions with a hypothesis, (i.e., what you think the outcome of your experiment will be?). Evaluate possible solutions and make your educated guess.

PLAN AN EXPERIMENT- What do you need to use to collect data to solve the problem? What will you do to find out the answer to your question? Challenge and test your hypothesis through experimentation (data collection) and analysis. Provide a meaningful (large) data set (ie, 30-50 observations, tests, surveys, etc.)

COLLECT AND ANALYZE THE DATA- What happened in your experiment? Evaluate the results of your experiment and reach conclusions based upon on your data.

FORM A CONCLUSION- What did you learn? Does your conclusion support your hypothesis? Why, why not?

Deliverable:

• A typed (double-spaced, stapled) report defining and describing the findings and results for each of the Scientific Method steps used to solve the Quality problem.

Outline for the written report:

1. (15%) Problem Statement
2. (20%) Research the Problem (ie, what is known and/or published about the problem)
3. (5%)Hypothesis Statement
4. (25%)Experiment- Data Collection
5. (25%)Analysis (ie, evaluate your data into meaningful information to supportyour conclusion)
