Pick two of the participants as case studies. Make sure that they are sufficiently different so that you have a lot of things to compare.

As already mentioned you can write the essay based on having watched either 42 Up or 49 Up. For those of you who have access to Netflix, you can also stream the documentary from there.
In writing the essay you should make the discussion based on both your own psychological knowledge as well as drawing in the readings that we have covered in class so far.
I am interested in your analysis, discussion and evaluation of their development – NOT a resume of their trajectories.
You should write a half page conclusion in which you show me the major points from your analysis and discussion.
Include a half page to a page section at the end of the paper following the conclusion in which you compare your own trajectory with your two case studies.
Write 5-7 pages (double-spaced, 12 size font, Times New Roman, 1 inch margins all around) about the development of these two individuals. In writing this paper, I am interested in reading your analysis, evaluation and discussion of their two trajectories. Please include discussions of the following:
What do you think are the important ways in which these people have developed? What are their different hopes, dreams and desires and what do you think might have shaped them?
What would you say are the major ways in which these two people differ?
What would you say might explain these developmental pathways and the differences between them?
For this final question you might consider: parental influence, what different opportunities they have had in their lives, free will vs. determined by environment, environment, issues of stigma and racism/sexism, etc, socioeconomic status, educational influences, the decisions the person has made, chance events, historical events and historical factors, genetic factors, anything else you think is important.

You should include a reference list and make sure to cite appropriately. Whenever you draw on any of the readings from class or other readings that you might find relevant for your discussion, make sure to cite them properly — a lack of citation can be misunderstood as plagiarism. The reference list is not included in the 5-7 pages.
