Requirements: 5–6 pages, has a clear thesis that is a debatable claim, emphasizes close reading throughout, utilizes 1+ outside source(s), includes MLA citations for all texts.
Further instructions: Your final paper will be over the the essay “matricide” in the book the Unspeakable by Meghan Daum. Your paper will need to have an argument that is supported by a series of close readings (2–3) from the text you choose.
Your argument should be clearly presented as a thesis statement near the end of your first paragraph. The goal of this final paper is to work from your careful observations of key details from a text to a debatable claim about the text as a whole. You will also need to incorporate at least 1 outside source into your analysis. This outside source can be 1) an additional primary text, 2) a secondary source (interview, book review, online criticism, etc.), or 3) a scholarly source. Your source should enhance your OWN analysis of the text you are writing on.
The paper should be 5–6 double-spaced pages with 1†margins, properly formatted and proofread. Please include a full citation for the text you are analyzing in addition to your outside source(s) at the end of the paper. You should include page or line numbers in parentheses for any quotations.
